The property for sale is an organic smallholding, situated in La Alpujarra, in the foothills of the beautiful snow-capped Sierra Nevada Mountains, South of Granada. It is 4 km from Orgiva off a quiet track with the river Guadalfeo in front and the wild Spanish sierra behind. The main house is a renovated traditionally built stable with thick stone walls and local wooden beams and lintels. Recycled materials have been used wherever possible and water and energy saving measures have also been incorporated. The roof is water tight and doubly insulated.

The local community is independent of the local grid, so power is generated by a solar system which produces 12 Volts or 24 Volts. Heating is via wood burning stove and wood is plentiful. The cooker and fridge both run on bottled gas, which are safely located outside. Drinking water is brought in by filling large water bottles for free, from any of the several flowing springs of fresh mountain water from the famous spa town of Lanjaron, which is situated a 20 minute drive away. There are pretty water channels running all along the mountainside keeping it green and bringing water from the river to everyone's land for domestic and agricultural use. The property comes with it´s own 3 phase digester for sewage, built to the standards of Friends of the Earth. The house is all very secure and safe.

The main house is called Casa Manos and was built in the 19th century, it is rustic and charming in style, converted from a stone-built stable. It is situated on an ancient Roman route, which was used for centuries to transport the precious commodities of silk, wine and oil from the High Alpujarra to the coast. This unique finca has terraces of fruit and nut trees set in 2.2 acres. Picturesque Orgiva, the capital of the Alpujarra can be seen 4km away.

The property consists of two restored, separate living spaces; the main house and nearby casita. The principle dwelling is double storey, with a traditional Alpujarran flat roof of modern, weather-proof construction. The interior upper storey is accessible by a beautiful, recycled wood and glass porch, containing an outside pantry / wood storage area. The porch leads to an old, chestnut, double, stable door entrance, and on into the main living space, of imaginative open plan design, adhering to the traditional Andalucian style, still with it's original beams of local wood that lends a warm, natural look and gives it an old world ambiance. The whole house has a lovely feel to it. Homely. It is cosy in the winter and with a breeze running through it in the summer to keep it cool. Many people have visited us over the years and helped us to create the space that is Casa Manos. The property reflects the love, passion, dedication and fun of all those it has housed over the years. The open plan living and dining area leads through to a double bedroom, the kitchen is adjoined by an area with a shower room, separate flushing toilet and utility room, complete with a washing machine. Double doors proceed out to a small conservatory/day room that over looks a lush beautiful lawn and flower beds.
